-The Merchant's physical appearnace is that he has a forking beard, and boots that buckle, he is wearing some type of hat, and dressed in all different colors.
-I think that the Merchant is keeping a secret of being in debt. He doesn't want people to know that he doesn't have any money.
-I think the narrator knows he is in debt but no one else does, and he doesn't know him very well because he doesn't even know his name.
